Vince Lombardi turned a perennial loser - the Green Bay Packers - into an NFL Powerhouse. He designed the power sweep, first for Frank Gifford as a coach with the Giants and then with Paul Hornung running behind full back Jim Taylor and guard Jerry Kramer. They would create a wall and run it "up the seam", as Lombardi would demonstrate on the chalk board to his loyal players. So, when the Packers executed an uncharacteristic series of bad plays, the coach could only respond saying "What the Hell is going on out there."
The undefeated Long and Wrong - once a well-oiled machine. Buying beers at the bar for the Commish and other fellow golfers. Firing low 40's scores - virtually impervious to league foes. Much like those 60's Packers, they uncharacteristically found themselves in a "What the hell is going on out there moment" Fosdick posting a 7 on 15 and Kelly a perfect 10 on 16. All captured in Excruciatingly Slow motion by Nick Sabol and NFL Films
MIKE LEVY DIFFUSES SITUATION
Unfortunately the slow motion replay was actual speed on the back nine at Greystone. This spelled brutality for the league's final foursome led by Angry "Sub" Lou Saben Mannix. "They're killing me Whitey, er... uh.... Danny , they're killing me"., exclaimed Mannix to his teammate Dangerous Dan Reed - as his patience was running thin. Despite the delays, Mannix would fire a 41 helping the Golf Team forge a 7-7 tie with the defending champion Outlaws. The Outlaws gained their first point in the standings. The press asked if the post season as now in their sites. Causing Mora O’Rourke to say. "Playoffs? ....Playoffs?"
GROUCHY KELLY & FOSDICK
Getting Back to the Long vs Caz match - which is still going on I think.... Young Gun Kelly would finish with a 49 and Fosdick with a slow cooked 47 as the L&W remained undefeated with a 10-5 victory over the Just as bad Caz Boys. When confronted on the slow play by league outsider Mannix, both Kelly and Fosdick refused to admit that their pace was extraordinarily slow and defended the deliberate nature citing the extreme focus in a tight match
Like two grumpy muppets sitting in the balcony of a sesame street scene the two refused to acknowledge any wrong doing and became more and more confrontational.. Enter Lightning Mike Levy. League management thanks the Ivy league, cerebral ex-head coach of the Bills, for stepping in to diffuse what could have been a lethal situation in the Restaurant at Stoney's Pub. "Where else would you rather be than right here right now" Mike uttered to reduce the tension
65 Toss Power Trap, it might pop wide open
STRAM ELLISON CALLS WINNING PLAY
While Fosdick and Kelly were matriculating the golf ball down the course, Hank Stram Ellison and the Figjam were struggling early. The Green Mile captured back-to-back trifectas on 12 and 13 and jumped out to an 8-2 lead. Stram Ellison needed to mount a comeback. A 3-pointer on 15 and a couple of solo points brought the Figjam to a within one point 8-7. Then Ellison Stram whispered a play to Dawson Kirk - "65 toss power trap". The play resulted in a Harry Crumb Birdie and an Ellison par on 18 leading the Figjam to a 10-8 cpme from behind victory over the Green Mile. Dennis Green Mile King expressed dismay after the match. "The Bears...er...uh... Figjam were what we thought they were and we let them off the hook"
YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME
HERM DIEHL PLAYS TO WIN
Herm Edwards Diehl had struggled in the early going of the 2021 season. So if you would have told him that teammate Butt Fumble Rocco would shoot 48, I'm sure the big tight end out of the University of Liberty (Limu Emu - get it) would have rejected the notion of winning. But when the Emu's opponent Honest Ed Lincoln ballooned to a 50 for the first time ever, it became clear that the Uno Mas had an opportunity to win. Herm Edwards Diehl told Rocco "You play to win the game". Diehl's big pars on 16 and 17 helped the Uno Mas to a stunning 6-4 win over the Tigers.
HEY SHULER LANE! YOU BETTER HOPE I NEVER GET BACK IN THERE (THIS MATCH) - I WILL KICK YOUR ....ASS!!!
COMMISH GETS BACK IN THE GAME
Dave Lane Schuler a tight end from the lowlyJets faced Lawrence Taylor Commish in a match that would provoke a high strung retaliation. Marv O'Dell would once again carry the Boyz in the Hood with another masterful performance, but he would need some help from LT Commish later in the match. "When it’s to tough for them its just right for us", Odell coached. Commish got back in the game and nailed a match clinching par on 18 knocking Mr Bones from the match 11-5.
